Dear President Papazian,
I am writing to you because Gregory Johnson Jr. deserves justice, and his family deserves to know the truth. The Sigma Chi Fraternity of San Jose State University has covered up the truth about how Gregory was killed. The university has helped the fraternity cover up this murder for the past 12 years.
It is shameful to be associated with an institution that claims to be diverse and value its students, when the university in question actually has failed to take accountability and be transparent about the way this investigation was handled.
Gregory Johnson, Jr. was a student at San Jose State University, and he deserved better than how this university has treated his family and their pursuit of a fair investigation.
Please do the right thing and stand in solidarity with the Johnson family as they work to find out the truth. Demand that SJSUPD release the full police report from the initial investigation, fire the cops who were involved in this investigation and cover-up, and re-open this case. The Johnson family and current SJSU students deserve to know the truth about what Sigma Chi did in 2008 when Gregory Johnson Jr. was murdered.
We demand a fair and transparent investigation into the death of Gregory Johnson, Jr.

Dear President Papazian,
We demand justice for the late San Jose State student and Sigma Chi fraternity brother, Gregory Johnson, Jr.
12 years ago on November 22, 2008, SJSU student, Gregory Johnson, Jr., was reportedly found hanging in the basement of the Sigma Chi fraternity house in which he lived. For the past 12 years, the Sigma Chi fraternity, San Jose State University, SJSU PD, and SJPD have been trying to cover up this hate crime. Although SJSU promotes diversity, the school has stayed silent on the death of Gregory Johnson, Jr. in order to maintain its reputation.
Although you were not the president of the university in 2008, your current faculty has done nothing to work toward justice for Gregory Johnson, Jr. The university claims to welcome diversity and support the Black Lives Matter movement, yet you have not done anything to help the African American community on campus. First, it must be recognized that Gregory Johnson, Jr. was murdered and his brothers were allowed to clean up the crime scene. Based on how the investigation unfolded, it was very evident that his death was not a suicide and the people deserve to know the truth. SJSU and Sigma Chi members need to be held accountable for his murder.
As SJSU students, we will no longer be silent on this issue. Everyone deserves to know the truth that Gregory Johnson, Jr. was murdered at the San Jose State campus by his peers, and Gregory has been denied justice simply because of the color of his skin. This school is responsible for his death and should also be responsible for serving justice for this beloved student and his family. I am embarrassed to attend a university that cares more about their money and reputation, than the safety and human rights of their students.
Please do the right thing and help us fight for justice for Gregory Johnson, Jr. Everyone at this university should know his name and story. If you truly support campus diversity, you will hold his fraternity brothers accountable for his death and promote justice for him and other victims of racial injustices on campus, to make sure no other SJSU student is ever a victim of a hate crime again. We all know there have been other hate crimes and issues of racial injustice on campus.
The university as a whole has the power and means to get this case reopened and demand that SJSU PD release the full police reports and proper authorities provide a new, fair, transparent investigation. As the president of a California State University, you can use your platform to raise awareness and support for justice for Gregory Johnson, Jr. and other victims of hate crimes across CSU campuses.
SHOW US THAT YOU REALLY BELIEVE BLACK LIVES MATTER. GREGORY JOHNSON, JR. DESERVES JUSTICE SO THAT HE MAY REST PEACEFULLY. DO WHAT’S RIGHT AND JOIN THE FIGHT.
Sincerely,
